Turn That Frown Upside Down Mentoring was founded as a
response to the real life lived experiences of our founding
director Abbie Fudge, a UK based Youth work trauma protective behaviours practitioner
with over a decades worth of experience working with and
mentoring Children and Young people and hard to reach
members of the community. With an extensive background in
: Trauma, Protective behaviours, Special educational needs,
safeguarding, at risk,in need, Looked after children, Child
Sexual Exploitation, criminal exploitation, substance misuse,
alternative provision and young people who present
significantly complex and challenging behaviour.
She identified that you only have to
take one single step to be further in your journey then you
were yesterday underpinning Changing The Future’s ethos
“one step, one journey, one day at a time”.
During the most difficult time in her life at school and until
recently as she continued to follow her journey, Abbie was
supported by one of life’s teachers, mentor Natalie Green/
Woodward who sadly is no longer with us today. Natalie was
an inspirational woman with a zest for life and known for her
infectious bubbly, smiley personality brightening every room
she walked into and putting a smile on every person’s face
she came into contact with, even those individuals who felt
they couldn’t.
The name of the programme was inspired by the famous
phrase “Turn that frown upside down” Natalie used to say
to Abbie during difficult times. Through this Abbie identified
that you are one caring professional away, from becoming a
success story & with the right support you can achieve
everything you dream of.
Changing The Future CICs intervention strategy enables us
to offer an unmatched 1:1 support to our program
participants & further support intervention.
Turn That Frown Upside down mentoring service offers support to children and young people in primary, secondary schools, alternative educational settings and any other setting's working with children and young people who have experienced adverse childhood experiences within their life or experienced or engaged in bullying behaviours .
The journey begins with one single step You only have to take one single step to be further on in your journey then what you were yesterday Taking one single step each day over time leads to two, to three extra steps, soon determining your path. No journey is the same, some can run to the end with no barriers (the straight path), others have to climb the brick wall (the bendy path) Time does not define, we all have a different pace
Turn That Frown Upside Down mentoring service supports children and young people in understanding who they are behind the mask. The mask can be like peeling a banana, some may be too hard to open, so you need some support to help open, others may appear fine but when opened they may be damaged. It's how we digest as professionals to provide support that is important.
