The Walk A Mile In My Shoe's program offers a three-tiered approach to support children and young people aged 4- 25 years old at risk of, being or have been subjected to bullying and those choosing to engage in bullying behaviours. What makes our program different is that we offer much needed 1:1 and group work support to those young people engaging in such behaviours. As we believe that everybody has a story and understanding the root causes of these behaviours, will support the reintegration process that underpins this program and ensures that all young people understand the concept of feeling safe.
.
The program provides early intervention support for up 20 young people (per group) as part of a reintegration process to those at risk of, experiencing or engaging in bullying behaviours and can be adapted to meet the needs of the young people within your setting.
Through the delivery of this program it also promotes youth voice, creating meaningful change for the wider community through up skilling others and supports connection.
FIRST TIER- IN MY SHOE'S
Talk/ Mini Performance
The first tier of the program incorporates the story of our director & the journey through adversity that they faced in order to navigate their own bullying experiences through the delivery of a provider talk or mini performance and an interactive workshop/ Q&A session.
SECOND TIER- WALK A MILE
Workshops/social action campaign
As part of the second tier of our program changing the future will also provide weekly 2 hour workshops for 4 weeks working with young people in a group or on a 1-2-1 basis. Along with producing a social action campaign as part of the campaign tier 2 will also provide young people with the opportunity to showcase the work that they have completed during the program. The overall aim of tier 2 is to raise awareness of the root causes of bullying, provide a safe space in understanding personal safety, recognising risk & equipping young people with coping mechanisms & skills needed to overcome these barriers.
THIRD TIER- A SINGLE STEP
Youth ambassador/ professional training
The last tier incorporates up skilling professionals & young people by providing anti-bullying training. Professional training will be made available to practitioners working with children and young people & those young people who have engaged & completed the walk a mile in my shoe's program, in which they will be given the opportunity to train to become a youth ambassador. This will then allow the young people to work together with staff at their setting to help create a change & offer advice to anyone who may be experiencing bullying.
Topics covered include: spotting the signs, the types of bullying, managing and dealing with all types of bullying, implementing effective methods, support and how to effectively respond.
